Research Ethics Announcement

Posted by Jaq-Lin Larder on November 12, 2019 in Announcements

The following changes to the ±«Óãtv research ethics review system are announced:

Revised Application Forms - The submission forms for research ethics review of prospective and secondary use of information research have been updated. The revised forms as well as updated consent form templates are now available on the research ethics website. Researchers are encouraged to use the revised forms going forward.

Board of Record Review – Multi-jurisdictional research that 1) has already received research ethics board approval from another TCPS-compliant institution and 2) does not involve a ±«Óãtv researcher as the principal investigator or co-principal investigator, will be considered for ‘board of record’ review. Eligible research will be acknowledged as having REB approval through the principal investigator’s REB (the board of record) and will not undergo additional ethical review by ±«Óãtv REBs. The application form is available on the research ethics website under Application for acknowledgement of REB approved multi-jurisdictional research.

Review of Similar Projects - A new section has been added to the ethics submission forms where researchers can indicate whether their current submission is similar to a previously approved research project.

Secondary Use Expertise - REB members with specific expertise in secondary use of information for research have been appointed to the Health Sciences and Social Sciences research ethics boards.

Mentoring for REB Members - Board chairs will provide ongoing education and mentoring to REB members on proportionate ethical review.
