Fountain Undergraduate Performing Arts Scholarships (Theatre)

APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR THEATRE STUDENTS

To be eligible for ±«Óãtv entrance scholarships, your academic application to the university must be complete by March 1. This includes provision of high school transcripts and all other requirements. Please apply for General Entrance Scholarships by March 1. See the Registrar's web site for more information about admission requirements.

Fountain Undergraduate Performing Arts Scholarships in Theatre are different for each program area. Please review the specific requirements below:

  • Acting: $6000 4-year renewable entrance award
  • Costume Studies: $6000 4-year renewable entrance award
  • Stage Design and Technical Theatre: $6000 renewable in-course award (2nd year) and $6000 shared funding (4th year)
  • Theatre Studies: $4000 renewable in-course award (2nd year) and $2000 renewable in-course award (3rd year)

ACTING: March 1 deadline and audition

  • A $6000 4-year renewable ENTRANCE award will go to a student who auditions and is accepted to the Acting program direct from high school.
  • Eligible students must have a high school grade minimum 87% admission average [an admission average is calculated based upon the five required courses for the program to which the student has applied] OR a minimum 29 predicted/anticipated IB Diploma points.
  • The scholarship will be renewed if the recipient carries a course load of 24 credit hours over two academic terms per year and maintains an annual GPA of 3.3 after year one, 3.5 after year two, and 3.7 after year three of their studies.
  • To apply, complete an Acting Supplemental Application Form to request an audition. Your supplemental form must be received by February 24, all your materials received by March 1, and your audition must be completed by the final scholarship audition date. Please see the Acting Supplemental Application Form and the Acting Audition Requirements information sheet for full details.
  • Students who are unable to audition in person may audition by video for scholarship consideration. Videos must be received by March 1. Contact performingarts@dal.ca for details about video auditions.

COSTUME STUDIES: March 1 deadline and portfolio

  • A $6000 4-year renewable ENTRANCE award will go to a student who enters the Costume Studies Program direct from high school, based on submission of a portfolio.
  • Eligible students must have a high school grade minimum 87% admission average [an admission average is calculated based upon the five required courses for the program to which the student has applied] OR a minimum 29 predicted/anticipated IB Diploma points.
  • The scholarship will be renewed if the recipient carries a course load of 24 credit hours over two academic terms per year and maintains an annual GPA of 3.3 after year one, 3.5 after year two, and 3.7 after year three of their studies.Ìý
  • Applicants must submit a portfolio or presentation in PDF format (no longer than 16 pages) containing materials that demonstrates the applicant’s talent for costume design. Portfolio submission deadline is March 1 via email to performingarts@dal.ca.Ìý

STAGE DESIGN & TECHNICAL THEATRE: In-course awards

A) Renewable in-course award (2nd year)

  • A $6000 3-year renewable award will go to a student entering the 2nd year of a BA Theatre program in Stage Design and Technical Theatre.
  • Eligible students must have a GPA of 3.3 based on a minimum of 24 credit hours at the end of first year. They must have completed THEA 1052, PERF 1002, and declared Stage Design and Technical Theatre as their program of study.
  • The award is renewable for years 3 and 4, provided the recipient carries a course load of 24 credit hours over two academic terms per year and maintains an annual GPA of 3.5 after year two and 3.7 after year three of their studies.
  • The award recipient will be selected by the Stage Design and Technical Theatre faculty based on the above criteria.

B) 4th year in-course award:Ìý $6000 will be divided among 4th year students in the Stage Design and Technical Theatre program who meet the course load and GPA criteria for the renewable award above but are not receiving the renewable award.

THEATRE STUDIES: In-Course Awards

A) Renewable in-course award

  • A $4000 3-year renewable award will go to a student who has completed their first year and wishes to enter the Theatre Studies program (as either an Honours, Combined Honours, Major or Double Major student).
  • Eligible students must have a GPA of 3.3 based on a minimum of 24 credit hours at the end of first year.
  • The award is renewable for years 3 and 4, provided the recipient carries a course load of 24 credit hours over two academic terms per year and maintains an annual GPA of 3.5 after year two and 3.7 after year three of their studies.
  • The award recipient will be selected by the Theatre faculty based on the above criteria.

B) Renewable in-course award (3rd year)

  • A $2000 2-year renewable award for a student in the Theatre Studies Program who has completed second year, including THEA 2901 (Dramaturgy) and THEA 2902 (Play Analysis for Directors).
  • Eligible students must have a GPA of 3.5 after year 2, based on a minimum of 24 credit hours per year.
  • The award isÌýrenewable for 1 year, provided the recipient carries a course load of 24 credit hours over two academic terms per year and has a GPA of 3.7 after year three of their studies.
  • The award recipient will be selected by the Theatre faculty based on the above criteria.
