Social Anthropology PhD student Evan Curley has been awarded theÌę2024 Mushkat Memorial Essay PrizeÌęfor his essay, âThe False Threat of Moderation: Sustaining Traditional Fishing Livelihoods.â Evan will present a talk on this essay later in April, date TBD. Many thanks to Karen, Evanâs supervisor, for supporting Evanâs submission.
MA Sociology student Nic Kuzmochka has been awarded theÌę2024ÌęIrving and Jeanne Glovin AwardÌęfor his essay,ÌęââOh to be Queer, Kinky, and Freeâ: Interrogating the Nature of Respect and Respectability Politics.âÌęMany thanks to Fiona, Nicâs supervisor, for supporting Nicâs application.
We are also delighted to announce that SOSA PhD student Kat Daly and MA student Matt Cottrell placed in the 2024 FASS essay competitions. Kat won the second place prize for theÌę2024 Irving and Jeanne Glovin Award competition for her essay, âA Good Life Without Money: Housing, Welfare and Basic Income in Halifax, Nova Scotia.â Matt won the third place prize for the 2024 Irving and Jean Gloving Award competition for their essay entitled,ÌęâEmbracing the Queer: A Case for Arts-Based Education for Good Human Conduct.â Many thanks to Lindsay and Margaret for supporting Katâs and Mattâs submissions, respectively.
