Recap: 2013 Castine Reception

Posted by Katie Ciavaglia on October 7, 2013 in News

On Friday, October 4, the Faculty of Dentistry hosted a reception at Saege Bistro to recognize the Faculty of Dentistry's Castine level donors - those who have contributed at least $1,000 to the Faculty within the past two years.

During the War of 1812, the British Navy captured a small port in Castine, Maine that was being used by American Privateers and turned it into a customs port of entry. At the end of the war, the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, George Ramsay (aka Lord ±«Óătv) committed a portion of the customs duties from Castine to form an endowment to help found ±«Óătv University.

The Faculty of Dentistry uses the term “Castine” as a nod to the treasure that was used to help found our great institution, and to the contributions from this special circle of donors whose generosity helps to maintain the highest quality of education for the oral health professionals of tomorrow.
