Janet Knox holds a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New Brunswick, a Master of Nursing from ±«Óătv University, a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary’s University, and is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders. Ms. Knox is the President and CEO of Annapolis Valley District Health Authority, a position she has held since 2004.
Instrumental in leadership development
Ms. Knox began her career as a staff nurse and has enjoyed a fulfilling career with clinical, education and leadership roles that have taken her across Canada and internationally. She led the baccalaureate degree entry to practice project for nursing in Nova Scotia; was a consultant to Pakistan on a nursing curriculum revision; conducted hospital accreditation surveys in other nations; published research findings that are cited and used more than 25 years later; assisted groups and organizations to achieve a “quality culture”; and has been instrumental in developing leaders at all levels in organizations.
Committee memberships
Ms. Knox has served on numerous boards and committees. She is a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders and of the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS); an adjunct faculty appointment with ±«Óătv University where she is a member of the School of Nursing Research and Scholarly Development Committee and as a member of the Professional Advisory Committee for the Master of Health Administration program. Currently, she is a member of the Board of Governors of the NSCC and a member of the Board of Directors for 211 Nova Scotia. She is a past Board Member of the Brigadoon Children’s Camp Society.
Award recipient
Ms. Knox has been recognized for her contributions with the following awards: Honorary Life Member, IWK Health Centre, 2004 and the Centennial Award of Distinction, College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia, 2009. Annapolis Valley District Health Authority has been named an Atlantic Canada Top Employer for three years.
