Supervisor Responsibilities

The supervisor is the point-person for:

  • Guiding development of the reading course proposal, the abstract, and the identification of the research cluster(s).
  • Completing the Criteria for method of evaluation of the reading course section of the form in consultation with the student.
  • Guiding the methodology, including the ethics review process (if required)
  • Submitting the reading course grade to the MLIS Program Coordinator. According to Faculty of Graduate Studies regulations, students can expect that their final grade will appear on their record within seven calendar days after a final examination and within fourteen calendar days after the completion of a class where there are no final examinations.

The Supervisor’s responsibilities also include:

  • The provision of reasonable access to students, and to be available for consultation at relatively short notice
  • Guiding the development of the reading course topic and in assisting students to define their goals
  • Guidance on reading course registration, particularly with respect to the multiple summer term registration options.
