GRANT, Douglas Roderick (Ph.D.) - Prospect, passed away peacefully at the age of 63, January 8, 2003, after having suffered a brain aneurysm on August 6, 2002. Born in Toronto, Ont., he was a son of the late Philip and Marie Grant. He was a graduate of ±«Óãtv University with a B. Sc. and M. Sc. in Geology and a Ph.D. from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. He was a research scientist for 30 years in Ottawa with the Geological Survey of Canada during which time he had many publications to his credit. His research areas were Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He contributed internationally in various ways including the creation of a scientific newsletter and website, was a contributing author to UNESCO projects and held several offices including President of World Shorelines Commission. He took early retirement in 1995 and founded Terracon Geoscience International, most recently completing a project with Kejimkujik National Park. Douglas and his wife Eleanor moved to Prospect in June 2001 to live by the sea and became very involved with the community there. He was compiling data to write a history of Prospect, a village they both loved. He was a man of many talents, a kind and compassionate person always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be very sadly missed. Surviving their great loss are his beloved wife, Eleanor (Guest); sons, Ken (Andrea), Ottawa; Kevin (Carole), Monaco; sister, Pat (George) Johnston, Georgetown, Ont.; brother, Roger (Carol), Waterloo, Ont.; granddaughter, Emma, Ottawa; niece, Carole and nephews, Carl, Chris, Tim and Joe, Ontario; mother-in-law, Viola Guest, Halifax. At Doug's request, cremation has taken place, followed at a later date by a family memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Thanks to dear Dr. Holness and staff and to all the kind nurses and caregivers of QEII Health Sciences Centre and Melville Lodge, as well as our dear friends in Prospect and surrounding areas.
