Five outstanding Dal students are about to undertake summer internships in Uganda, Tanzania and the Caribbean, as part of the national QEII Scholars program (a partnership of Universities Canada, the Community Foundations of Canada, and the Rideau Hall Foundation). This group represents the inaugural class of a new program, designed to develop a new generation of community leaders and academics with bright and creative minds and a commitment to bettering their country.
One of the students, Elsa Tokunaga (currently majoring in Economics and Environment, Sustainability and Society)Â will be conducting socio-economic monitoring research in Barbados, and will then travel to Dominica to collect data.Â
In addition, Elsa was one of two Dal students chosen to join a small number of QEII Scholars from across Canada to attend a recent banquet sponsored by Rideau Hall Foundation in Ottawa. The selected students also had the opportunity to meet privately with the Governor General and former Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
