Update on "Invest in Yourself" 30‑day wellness challenge

Posted by Human Resources on April 29, 2020 in Human Resources

Response to the new "Invest in Yourself" 30-day wellness challenge has been outstanding.  With 176 employees registered, it is safe to say that interest has surpassed expectations.  The challenge involves a self-directed approach to trying one wellness habit each day for 30 days. See more details at . Individuals can start any time.

Those who send an update on their experience to healthy@dal.ca get their name put into the weekly prize draw.  So far, Laura Cumming from the Rowe School of Busines has won a Fitbit and Jennifer Sullivan from the Dean's Office in the Faculty of Health has won a $25 gift card to Amazon.

Individuals indicate that they appreciate having the guidance, and permission, to spend time on their wellbeing, especially during the challenges they, and other Nova Scotians, have been facing.

Participant comments:

"Because I am aware of the challenge, I have been making more of an effort to keep track of other small things I can do throughout the day like meditation, breathing exercises, work outs to get moving, and more. I appreciate the reminder and support this challenge provides! It really does help."

"I would like to thank you again for this challenge.  It is a conscious, mindful way of doing something for your health everyday and it has been working.  I am doing some things that I would normally do anyway but I am also trying new things with the challenge.  Because I am accountable to someone it makes me get up and move sometimes when I otherwise wouldn’t. I have been doing the daily challenge everyday.  I’ve also been trying to adapt good habits like taking a lunch everyday and either going for a walk or getting out and raking leaves in my garden.  I found I was slipping into some bad habits and lack of activity working from home so this has been a great motivational tool and has gotten me back on track.  I am grateful for that."
