Lia is a kitty who lives with Elizabeth Welsh, a University Teaching Fellow in the Department of Biology.
Name: Lia, short for Melia. We adopted her and her sister Coco from the Yarmouth SPCA after our first trip to Cuba. She was named after the Melia Cayo Coco hotel.
Nicknames: Pupwup, Liakins, Wee Missie
Species/breed: Felis catus, domestic cat, a mix of gray Tabby and Siamese
Age: 12 years
Fave food: Anything! She is a food addict but has been on a strict diet over the last two years to get to her former (and current) slim trim weight so she can race up and down the stairs.
Special tricks:
·      Hostess – greets all visitors (an opportunity to get more attention than her three rescue cat siblings).
·      Musical chairs - will shamelessly steal anyone else’s chair (preferred) at family suppers.
·      Couch potato - watching videos on an iPad with her human sister is a recent fun pandemic activity. Favourites are birds, waterfalls, and the Outlander series.
Best quality: Tête-à -têtes - she is a great conversationalist and is happy to talk back and forth about anything! She loves attention, and her soft fur and happiness at spending time together is very comforting.
Social media platform or handle, if available: Restricted to Biology and Marine Biology students enrolled in the Evolution course where Lia is a part-time model for prelab talks (see photo right).Â
