The College of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health, was deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Patrick Farmer on October 2, 2022 at the age of 80.
Dr. Farmer was a medicinal chemistry faculty member at the College for over 40 years and continued in a post-retirement appointment for several additional years. He had a quirky sense of humour with a big laugh and his colleagues always knew when he was around. While he sometimes liked to pretend he was “a grumpy old man”, he cared deeply for his students and his faculty and staff colleagues. Pat had such commitment to the College of Pharmacy. He was a true believer in PBL and advocated for this style of learning before the College made the move to the PBL curriculum in 1997, and he was proud of what was achieved. He received a national Excellence in Teaching Award for this work.
Pat’s full obituary may be found at . A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at Bethany United Church on Clinton Avenue at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023. In keeping with his deep commitment to students, a fund for deserving pharmacy students has been set up in his honour and contributions may be made at giving.dal.ca/patfarmer.
