On April 22th, 2016,聽Amber Giles聽presented her graduate work at the DFO Gulf Region Office in Moncton, NB. Amber鈥檚 research entitled聽鈥淚mproving the eel fishery through the incorporation of Indigenous Knowledge Systems into policy level decision making- A case study, Eskasoni First Nation鈥�聽had a strong focus on the Species at Risk process for the assessment of the American eel. The lead region for this assessment is the Gulf, and those involved were in attendance. The presentation generated an open conversation about the incorporation of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and how to overcome barriers.
