The Centre for Learning and Teaching’s newsletter FOCUS on University Teaching and Learning is published online. Prior to 2020, each newsletter was thematically focused and featured articles contributed by ±«Óãtv colleagues.

All CLT Library assets are available for loan. Academic staff and graduate students/teaching assistants are welcome Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm to browse and borrow, through Dalhouise Libraries.

This guide is a collection of resources related to teaching and learning the higher education. All of the resources in this guide are available to faculty and students at ±«Óãtv University, and many are completely open access. Most of the print resources listed on this guide are available in the Centre for Learning & Teaching book collection, which is located on the first floor of the Killam Library.

This guide includes publications (books, journals, articles) and other resources related to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).

In the Artificial Intelligence in the Higher Ed Classroom resource, you will find information you need to understand the basics of A.I. technologies, to talk with your students about artificial intelligence, and to design assessments with A.I. in mind.

Collaborative Online International Learning is an innovative approach of teaching to fostering global competence through development of an intercultural learning environment that connects institutions, courses, instructors, and students in different geographic locations across the world.

The Online Teaching website serves as an information hub for course instructors seeking resources and supports for online and blended teaching.

The Simulation and Student Learning website is designed as an online resource for faculty, educational developers and graduate students interested in simulation based learning.

Teaching Dossiers are a significant component of tenure and promotion and re-appointment files at ±«Óãtv. Teaching Philosophy Statements or Statements of Teaching Interest are increasingly requested for job applications. Whether you are a faculty member, post-doctoral fellow or graduate student, the ability to articulate your approaches to teaching and to ensure alignment of your ideas across your Dossier will enable you to prepare a Teaching Dossier for evaluative purposes. Creating a Dossier also provides you with an opportunity to enhance student learning by encouraging you to reflect upon your teaching philosophy and to ensure that it is connected to the approaches, activities and assessments you plan for your courses.

Support

The Centre for Learning and Teaching offers two annual Teaching Dossier workshops: one for graduate students in September and one for faculty members in May.  We also provide individual consultations on an on-going basis for faculty, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students, who would like to discuss or receive feedback on their Teaching Dossiers or teaching philosophy statements.

Resources

Teaching first-year students can be both challenging and rewarding.  This website provides evidence-based advice, ideas and resources to assist you in easing your students’ transition to university teaching and learning.   It also provides an opportunity for you to hear from first-year instructors at ±«Óãtv who are sharing their own experiences of teaching in first-year classes, highlighting how they support students’ academic success.

University Affairs is the most trusted source of news, information and opinion about higher education in Canada. Covering the university scene for over 50 years, University Affairs is also the country’s largest source of career advertising aimed at the academic community.
