Their Honours were pleased to open Government House for the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship Program Reception. This was a time to celebrate the achievements of students and researchers who were named as Queen Elizabeth Scholars.
The Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship program, know as the QES, was established in 2012 to honour the 60th anniversary of Her Late Majesty’s accession to the Throne. The objective of the program was to promote international student exchange and civic engagement through project-based scholarships.
Ten years after the official launch, QES has successfully funded over 100 projects at 46 Canadian universities and in 72 countries. The scholars at Government House today join a vibrant community of 2,200 young people who have completed the program.
Their Honours would like to thank Mr. Ikem Opara, Director of the National Learning Initiatives, Rideau Hall Foundation, and Ms. Jeanne Gallagher, Program Manager, Universities Canada, for offering remarks. They also thank Keisha Jeffries and Andreas Robinson for presenting on their research.
