The Team Grants: Lung Health funding opportunity is co-led by the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health and the Institute of Cancer Research at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Amid the growing threats to the lung health of people who live in Canada, CIHR and its partners have invested over $15M to support interdisciplinary research teams. The Team Grants in Lung Health is the single largest investment in respiratory research in CIHR’s history.

The Canadian Thoracic Society, Children’s Healthcare Canada, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, and Health Canada’s Controlled Substances and Cannabis Branch have also committed in-kind contributions for teams applying to the funding opportunity.

The funded teams will address gaps in our understanding of biological, social, environmental, and behavioural factors that impact lung health. Collectively, these teams will create and disseminate high-quality research evidence with a focus on disparities, equity, diversity and inclusion analyses, and Indigenous contexts. Seven research areas have been identified as key topics for investigation including: vaping (youth behaviours and biological effects), inflammation, climate and air quality, women’s lung health, lung cancer, and data science and policy.

The application deadline is November 16, 2023. If you have questions on the requirements of this funding opportunity or the application process, please attend the  on September 26, 2023, to learn more. The full details of the funding opportunity can be found on CIHR’s portal.
