Know Your Dal ‑ How you can participate

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on September 8, 2015 in News

Know Your Dal

This fall, our Faculty will be participating in a new initiative called Know Your Dal (KYD).Ìý

Know your Dal willÌýlaunch on September 7 and will run for 13 consecutive weeks. Each week, a different Faculty will step into the spotlight, highlightingÌýtheir work and their people through photos, Dal News articles, social media content and more. Students, faculty and staff will get an inside look at life in another Faculty, campus or city.

Our Faculty is scheduled for the week ofÌýSeptember 21, 2015. ÌýÌýOne of the tactics we'll be leveraging to share the work being done in our Faculty is a Storify (see an example here:Ìý). A Storify is a collection of social media posts from various accounts, curated into one shareable story.

Throughout our scheduled week of September 21ÌýIÌýencourage you to share via Twitter or Instagram a post that highlights your work, research, recent accomplishments, etc. in our Faculty.ÌýPhotos and links are welcome, however you'll need to keep in mind the character restrictions of your chosen platform - not an easy task. Other caveats? In order for us to easily identify your post online and include it with the appropriate Faculty,Ìýwe ask that youÌýinclude the hashtag #KnowYourDal and share your post online no later than Thursday, September 24th at 2pm.Ìý

If you want to participate and share your work / research, but don't maintain a social media account – please send it my way. I will ensure that it is shared from our Faculty's social media account.

ÌýI've included a couple of examples below, for your reference:Ìý

•ÌýÌýÌý Exploring feeding patterns of one of our region's most notable endangered species, the right whale: bit.ly/1MAB5vu #KnowYourDal - @kim_davies12

•ÌýÌýÌý I keep the department’s ducks in a row. Daily. #KnowYourDal - @AJkim

•ÌýÌýÌý Figuring out where our food comes from and how to improve it. #KnowYourDal #agriculture - @foodimprover

For additional inspiration, you may want to check out the hashtag on Twitter, or UBC's #EdResearch campaign:Ìý
