The Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada is excited to welcome Margaret Graves as the new Program Manager at OACC. Ìý
Margaret will be administering the national Organic Science Cluster II research program and will be exploring new project opportunities for the OACC. Margaret is excited to be returning to campus after some time away, having completed her M.Sc. (Agr.) in 2009. Since then, she has been expanding her perspective on agricultural systems and developing project management skills in Canada and internationally.Ìý
In Quebec, Margaret assisted with switchgrass research for biomass energy. In the Gambia, Senegal and Tanzania, she worked with farmers on crop systems and livestock husbandry. Back in Canada in 2013, she managed the St. John’s Farmers’ Market for a season before relocating to Ontario. There, Margaret championed the cause of new entrant farmers with FarmStart, coordinating projects in the areas of succession and farm financial viability. A stint with the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association improved her understanding of environmental program delivery for farmers.
Throughout these experiences Margaret has maintained a connection to academia by collaborating on writing projects with researchers at the University of Guelph.
Margaret enjoys spending time with her horse, running, hiking and other outdoor pursuits. She looks forward to re-establishing connections at the AC and helping to facilitate organic research across Canada.
