Looking Ahead

After the BEDS Program

After receiving a BEDS degree, students can adjust their career ambitions. Most of our BEDS graduates continue into the MArch program to focus on building design, with plans to become a registered architect. BEDS graduates who are more interested in urban design or environmental planning may apply to ±«Óãtv's Master of Planning program. Those who really enjoyed a particular facet of the BEDS program - such as building technology, digital design, history, craft, conservation, or fine art - may proceed into a different program in Halifax or elsewhere that is more suited to their interests and ambitions.

After the MArch Program

After receiving a professional architecture degree, an MArch graduate typically works in an architectural office and may do professional examinations two years later to become a registered architect. Most of our MArch graduates pursue careers in architectural practice. Depending on their particular interests, they may focus on:

  • house design
  • public buildings
  • building and environmental technology
  • material innovation
  • interior design and fabrication
  • urban and community design
  • historic restoration and adaptation
  • project management
  • facilities management
  • real estate development
  • teaching

Our graduates practice across Canada and around the world, in various types of work settings:

  • sole proprietorships in a home studio
  • small- and medium-sized architectural firms
  • corporations with branches around the world
  • government and public institutions
  • private companies
  • research institutes
  • international development agencies
