Jacklynn Dennis

Jacklyn Dennis

Jaclynn is a recent graduate from the University of Victoria with a BA(Hons) in Political Science and Public Administration. She completed her undergraduate thesis on the effectiveness of the International Criminal Court in diffusing the norm of protecting human rights and has continued to focus her professional pursuits on criminal and social justice. She looks forward to continuing developing her knowledge within her Masters by looking at human rights, mental health, inequality, and criminal justice. Through her work in Vancouver and Victoria at local halfway houses, as well as her pursuits working and researching for the CCR2P on egregious crimes, she hopes to continue working from an intersectional lens to learn how to best mitigate and improve human rights abuses

Lidia Shibre

I was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but later moved to Ontario where I attended high school. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of New Brunswick with a Joint Honour in International Development Studies and Political Science as well as a Certificate in Military Ethics. My reseaarch interests include conflict and peace, development, climate, and healthcare. During the summer before coming to Dal, I had the opportunity to undertake an internship program with the Department of Peacekeeping at the UN where I worked on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence in 4 of the largest Peackepping Missions. 

Umme Mim Mohsin

Umme Mim Mohsin

As a proactive development practitioner, gender and humanitarian champion, Mim hopes to bridge local humanitarian work with global initiatives, “Think global, act local†being her motto. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degree in World Religions and Culture from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. As a Program Associate at CARE Bangladesh, Mim supported the Humanitarian and Resilience program to formulate project proposals, prepare internal and donor reports, communication materials, oversee emergency responses, and manage network/cluster stakeholders. She has also volunteered in international (Oxfam in Bangladesh) and national development organizations (Leaping Boundaries, BD clean, etc.) supporting humanitarian aid programs, education for girls, and environmental awareness in rural areas of Bangladesh. Her current research interests include gender and development, gendered post-disaster impact, climate change adaptation and resilience, disaster and development.

Julia Tazzeo

Jilia Tazzeo

My name is Julia Tazzeo, and I am a graduate of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. While at McMaster, I completed a combined honours in Arts & Science and Geography. My undergraduate degree allowed me to explore a wide range of disciplines and examine global issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. My research interests center largely around sustainability and climate justice. I am also very interested in working to bridge the gaps between climate science, policymaking, and social change.

Kate Hide

Kate Hide

Kate Hide is a Master of Arts student in the International Development Studies program. She has a BA (hons) in International Development Studies and Sociology, and certificates in Indigenous Studies, Medical Humanities, and Intercultural Communication from ±«Óãtv University. Kate was born and raised in Australia and worked in business development and management before leave to backpack in Europe in 2012. While travelling Europe she WWOOFed on several farms, including spending a year as a dairy farm assistant in France, and volunteered as a driver at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Her research interests are global health, social determinants of health, menstrual health management, and medical sociology
