We offer a six-year joint Doctor of Medicine/Master of Science in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery program. Students in this program receive extensive surgical training at the Faculty of Dentistry and hospitals in Halifax. We also offer a three-year Master of Science in Periodontics, which provides students with a variety of clinical experiences, emphasizing thorough patient evaluation and accuracy in diagnosis and treatment planning. Our Paediatric General Practice Residency offers new dentists an opportunity to enhance and advance their clinical skills and training in paediatric dentistry. This one-year accredited program is offered by the IWK Health Centre Dental Department, in conjunction with the Faculty of Dentistry's division of paediatric dentistry, which is part of our Department of Dental Clinical Sciences. We are the only accredited facility east of Montreal and one of only three in Canada.
In 2013, we introduced a one-year General Practice Residency program, which offers dentists an opportunity to enhance their clinical skills. The program is one of seven in the country.
In 2020, we introduced a one-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship program, which provides dentists with additional exposure and training in oral maxillofacial surgery. The program accepts one student per year.
