Our Admission Process

The following information applies to all MHA options, including the Thesis Stream and JD/MHA.Ìý For the combined program, you must follow the appropriate application process for those programs, in addition to completing your MHA application.

Our Admissions Criteria

  • A 4-year bachelor's degree (honours or equivalent) with a minimum B+ average (3.3 GPA).ÌýA background in health care and/or a clinical setting is not required. International transcripts will be converted to the ±«Óãtv equivalent to determine eligibility.
  • Proficiency in quantitative reasoning. This is demonstrated through an undergraduate or graduate statistics course from a recognized university, or equivalent performance on the applicable GRE, GMAT or MCAT sections.Ìý If taking the GMAT, a GMAT Focus score of 515 or above is required.Ìý Applicants for the JD/MHA may rely upon their LSAT score - see the JD/MHA page for details.
  • Evidence of English Language proficiency (international students only).Ìý If English is not your first language you will need to demonstrate your ability to complete graduate-level study in English.Ìý There are some exemptions to this condition: the Faculty of Graduate Studies provides detailed information (link to language proficiency: opens in new tab).Ìý

Our Admissions Process

You will apply for the MHA through the Registrar's Office online application portal, and pay your initial application fee of $115.Ìý Your application is then forwarded to the School of Health Administration's admissions team.ÌýÌý

Within the School, your complete application package will be considered by at least two members of our admissions team.Ìý Applicants with a GPA of 3.7 or above will be reviewed for early acceptance.Ìý All other applications will be considered shortly after the relevant application deadline (see below).Ìý

Once a decision has been reached within the School, our recommendation is sent to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for approval.ÌýÌýOnce the recommendation has been processed, the admission decision will be available on your online application portal.

If an offer of admission is made, you will need to pay an admission deposit to confirm your acceptance.Ìý Details regarding orientation and other program information will be sent to you after the admission review process has been completed.

Our Admissions Deadlines

You may only apply for a September start to our program; there is no winter or spring admission to the MHA.ÌýÌý

All applications for September should be submitted for January 31st.

Early application is strongly encouraged.

Your Application Package

Your application form will need to be completed throughÌý.

Your application package should then be sent to healthadmin@dal.ca and the following documents should be included:

  • Original transcripts of all previous academic work (sent by the institution).
  • If your transcripts do not include a grade of A- or above in a graduate or undergraduate statistics course: your GMAT, GRE or MCAT results.Ìý JD/MHA applicants' LSAT results will be shared with us by the Schulich School of Law.
  • Your resume.Ìý
  • A statement of career interests noting reasons for applying to the MHA program.
  • Two academic letters of reference.Ìý Note: you do not submit these.Ìý You will have provided academic email addresses on your application form.Ìý A secure link will be sent to your referees.
  • International students must provide proof of English language proficiency as per Faculty of Graduate Studies guidance (link to language proficiency information: opens in new tab).Ìý

Please note: English Proficiency Test scores do not replace the GMAT/GRE/MCAT requirement.ÌýÌý
