Research interests

Synopsis: His research focuses on how age-related alterations in inflammation and oxidative stress affect the cardiac function and contribute to the development and progression of cardiac disease. Dr. Grandy also examines the protective effects of exercise, in regard to cardiac disease, at the cellular level (animal models) and in clinical populations. His research program combines both cellular and applied approaches to better understand the efficacy of exercise as an intervention to prevent cardiac disease. This provides students with a broad perspective of cardiac research that has widespread clinical applications.

  • Cellular research: electrophysiology and molecular biology techniques to investigate cardiac cellular function.
  • Applied research: exercise testing and prescription are used to assess and improve cardiovascular function in aged individuals and clinical populations.
