Dear friends,
Last month’s convocations marked the end of my first academic year as Dean of the Faculty of Health Professions. Since joining ±«Óãtv last summer, I’ve had the opportunity to meet alumni, practitioners, stakeholders and others from across the spectrum of health. I’ve learned about the extent of our faculty community’s contribution to health across Nova Scotia (and more broadly) and had the privilege to champion the leading research, teaching and service work of our students, faculty and staff.
This summer, I’ll be sharing with you our new strategic plan and our vision for the Faculty over the next five years. I’m excited to hear your feedback and to get to work to move the Faculty – and health field – forward.
New Appointments
As we prepare to enter this new era, I’m pleased to share with you some new appointments across our Faculty:
Dr. Judy MacDonald will commence her role as Director of the School of Social Work and Assistant Dean of the Faculty in July 2018, Professor Brenda Richard will be Acting Director and Acting Assistant Dean from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018.
Dr. Gail Tomblin Murphy will assume the role of Director of the School of Nursing and Assistant Dean of the Faculty on July 1, 2017.
Dr. Tanya Packer will be the Interim Director of the School of Health Administration and Interim Assistant Dean from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.
Dr. Shaun Boe will take over as Coordinator of the PhD in Health program on July 1, 2017.
Tanya Dutton began her role as the inaugural Managing Director of the Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research this spring.
Thanks!
I’d like to thank Dr. Kathleen MacMillan who will be retiring at the end of her term as Director of the School of Nursing and Assistant Dean of the Faculty this month. Kathleen’s visionary leadership has been instrumental in showcasing the School of Nursing on the National Stage.
Thank you also to Dr. Joe Byrne for his service as Director of the School of Health Administration and Assistant Dean of the Faculty. Joe will be stepping down as Director at the end of his term in June, however he will not be leaving Dal, so we will continue to benefit from his experience.
Finally, thanks to Dr. John Kozey for his service as the inaugural Coordinator of the PhD in Health program. John’s leadership in the establishment of this program has been crucial.
I hope you all enjoy this edition of Mosaic and expect to hear more about our strategic plan in the next few weeks.
Sincerely,
Alice Aiken,
Professor and Dean
