Application Process

The online graduate application for the MSW degree will open on August 1st for the September 2026 intake.

Please note that ±«Óãtv University has transitioned to a new online application portal for the MSW application process.ÌýThe guidelines for submitting and managing supporting documents has been updated (within the online graduate application) to reflect this platform change.ÌýAll MSW supporting documents must still be uploaded/received by the November 15thÌýdeadline. It is highly recommended to submit your online applicationÌýat least two weeks before the deadline. This allows sufficient time for referees to submit references.Ìý
  • The MSW application deadline is November 15 of each year.
  • IncompleteÌýand lateÌýapplicationsÌýare not considered
  • Equal consideration is given to part time and full time applications
  • BSW Entry ApplicantsÌýindicate if they wish to apply for campus or online distance delivery. ApplicantsÌýcannotÌýapply forÌýboth delivery modes
  • Non BSW Entry available only on campus, full time

Transcripts

For your initial application to graduate studies, we only require your unofficial academic transcripts for each post secondary institution you have attended including colleges and institutions attended for an exchange program, transfer credit or letter of permission from their home institution regardless if the grades appear on the transcript of their home institution. In progress transcripts are required for institutions you are currently attending. Please include degree certificates if degree conferral is not stated on your transcripts.

Unofficial transcripts can be uploaded to your file when completing the academic section of the online graduate application. High School transcripts are not required. Please note that if an applicant fails to provide transcripts for all institutions or does not reflect attending all institutions in their online application, the Admissions Office will not assess the file.

If you are accepted for admission, your final and official transcripts will be required within 90 days of the start date of your program.Ìý Once accepted, official transcripts should be emailed to the Faculty of Graduate Studies atÌýgraduate.studies@dal.ca

References

When completing the online graduate application, there is a section for referee information. Once this information is entered and your application is submitted, the system will make contact and collect the references directly into the application portal.Ìý It is important to submit your application in advance to ensure your referees have sufficient time to complete the forms. Additional letters are not required but there is an option to attach an additional letter to the reference form if needed. You will need to enter information for two referees based on the guidelines below.

Academic referees should be a university instructor, should not be a college instructor.

Professional referees can be a current or previous supervisor, should not be a co-worker.

  • For applicants who are currently attending university or completed their undergraduate (or related graduate) degree within the past 3 years:

  • For applicants who completed their undergraduate (or related graduate) degree 3 to 5 years ago:

The MSW application is a self-managed process. Applicants must complete the online ±«Óãtv Graduate Application flow, upload statement, resume, transcripts, and arrange references .ÌýÌý

Due to the large number of applicants each year, the School of Social Work does not personally confirm receipt of your Application Supplementary documents.Ìý You are able to track receipt of the supplementary documents on the online check list.Ìý Please note this checklist will not update immediately upon receiving your supplementary documents.
