Chemical Oceanography Group
The Chemical Oceanography Group has two faculty members.Â
Carly Buchwald’s group uses the abundance stable isotopes of N and O in nitrite and nitrate to interpret nitrogen biogeochemistry in the environment. They measure the isotope systematics of relevant microbial nitrogen transformation processes and use these values to interpret natural abundance of isotopes in a wide range of environments including wastewater, lakes, estuaries, rivers and the ocean.
Doug Wallace’s group studies chemical oceanography and marine biogeochemistry with specific focus on the ocean carbon cycle, ocean-atmosphere exchange; ocean time-series observations, the ocean nitrogen cycle, tracer oceanography, ocean observation and especially the use of autonomous platforms and “platforms of opportunity.â€
