Admission to Work‑Integrated Learning and Co‑operative Education Programs

Applying to co-op

The process for applying to WIL Co-op programs varies by program. In some programs, WIL is a mandatory component of the academic program and does not require a separate application. Other programs will require application approximately 8 months prior to starting WIL program.ÌýÌýPlease verify on the program page what is required of your program.ÌýÌýIf you have further questions, please contact askcoop@dal.ca.

Eligibility criteria

For initial and continued eligibility for Work Integrated Learning and Co-operative Education programs and the supports and services that includes, students must:

  • Meet the minimum CGPA for their program (please see program pages for specifics)
  • Have completed all required credentials, courses and or pre-requisites for their program (this can include entry to program and continued eligibility)Ìý
  • Be eligible to work in Canada (international students with a valid study permit must apply for a co-op work permit)
  • Have registered their work term on Dal Online
  • Complete and pass and mandatory WIL Preparatory course outlined by your program.

WIL Co-op program requirements

Once accepted into a WIL Co-op program, students must:

  • Adhere to the sequence of work terms and study terms outlined by their program.
  • Be registered as full-time students during study terms.

WIL Co-op program fees

All students are required to pay their co-op program fees which are non-refundable.

Engineering Students transferring from Associated Universities

±«Óãtv Engineering students do not start co-op work terms until year three. Engineering students transferring from Associated Universities after their first two years will not have previously completed co-op work terms accepted. Engineering students from associated universities must also meet co-op program application deadlines in order to be in sync with the work term schedule for their discipline.

Science and Computer Science students who transfer to Dal must get previous work terms approved by their faculty.
