Men's and women's track teams are AUS champs

The ±«Óãtv track and field teams are once again AUS champions after convincing team and individual performances at the season-ending regional meet this past week in Moncton, N.B.

The men’s team scored 140 team points, well ahead of second place St. FX which managed 57. Peter Corrigan was named AUS rookie of the year after winning the 1500m and helping the 4x800m relay team take home gold. Ueli Albert was named Male Athlete of the Year after picking up wins in the 600m and 1000m. Also taking home gold medals for the Tigers were Anthony Bernard (300m & long jump), Russell Christie (3000m), James Berry (60m hurdles), Steve Fox (high jump and pentathlon), Tyler Rodgers (triple jump), and Joshua O’Hagen (weight throw).

The women’s team scored 148 total points, 64 more than second place St. FX.Ìý Pentathlete Alicia Dobranowski set a new AUS record of 3262 points in the five-event showcase and was named female athlete of the meet. Also noteworthy on the women’s side were Alix Bryant's new AUS record in weight throw of 13.14m and Susan Sobey making the national CIS standard with a time of 7.65s in the 60m dash.

Other winners for ±«Óãtv included Leanne Huck (300m), Celia Peters (600m), Alicia Dobranowski (60m hurdles & high jump), Mary Francis Lynch (long jump), and Lindsay Jones (shot put).

±«Óãtv's Dan Hennigar, who coaches both the men's and women's teams, was named coach of the year.

The final team scores for men were: ±«Óãtv (140), St. FX (57), Saint Mary’s (53), Moncton (28). On the women’s side it was: ±«Óãtv (148), St. FX (74), Saint Mary’s (28), Moncton (26), Acadia (5).

The CIS national championships will be held March 7 to 9 at McGill University in Montreal.
