Pssst! Wanna have a food fight? Duck! There’s a box of spaghetti headed your way. Veer right! Watch out for that can of minestrone!
A student group called Repair Our World, aka ROW, is behind ±«Óătv’s efforts to help Feed Nova Scotia meet its 200,000 kilogram goal of collected food and beat out food banks in Regina and Victoria.
ROW has set up drop-off boxes for nonperishable food items in the Student Union Building, the Killam atrium, A&A building at King’s, Coburg Coffee House and Starbucks at Robie and Spring Garden Road.
“C’mon out and donate some food,” says ROW’s Rachel Max. “It doesn’t take a lot but together we can make a big difference.”
You’ve got until Thursday, Oct. 14 to bring in your canned goods. All the food collected at Dal will go to support Feed Nova Scotia in the 2010 Coast-to-Coast Food Fight.
ROW is a service-oriented volunteer group, an offshoot of the Jewish Students Association. With 75 students on its mailing list, the idea behind ROW is that you can volunteer as much or as little as you like, depending on your time and availability, explains Ms. Max, a third-year history student who started ROW with Alyza Weinberg. who graduated last spring.
“With ROW, you can be involved as you want to be,” explains Ms. Max, from Toronto. Other projects include selling candygrams in aid of LOVE (Leave Out Violence) and help run an information clinic for Canadian Blood Services. “We set up opportunities for people who want to help, but you don’t have to commit every week. It really allows students to do what they can, when they can.”
And now they’re asking for everyone’s help. “You can do something good because this is a fight where everyone’s going to win.”
