If you’re one of the Dal staff or students who, coffee cup in hand, cruises down Alumni Crescent searching for a morning parking spot, you'll have to rethink your route. As of Tuesday April 24th, the normal entrance to Alumni Crescent (off South Street near Memorial Arena) is closed to both vehicles and pedestrians to accommodate the decommissioning and future demolition of the arena.

The usual “exit” from Alumni Crescent–onto South Street, across from Dalplex–is now open to two-way vehicle traffic. This will serve as both an entrance and exit to the crescent.

Most of Alumni Crescent will remain open. Vehicles are permitted to enter and park in reserved Dal permit, general Dal permit, and metered public parking spaces. There is now a vehicle turning space located near Studley Gym.

Jeff Lamb, assistant vice-president, Facilities Management, encourages drivers to slow down and use caution when travelling on Alumni Crescent.

“There are sections of the road that are quite narrow and with parked vehicles backing into two-way traffic, we all have to be careful” says Lamb.

The decisions regarding what will happen on the current arena site are still up in the air, but one thing is certain – the building and the area surrounding it are now part of a temporary construction site.

The construction fence that surrounds the arena also encompasses the LeMarchant Mixed Use Building site.  For information on this and other projects happening on campus, go to .
