Women’s Soccer
The Tigers came away with just one point this weekend after a 2-2 draw against Acadia and 1-0 loss to UPEI. The women’s soccer team now finds themselves outside the AUS playoff picture, sitting in seventh place.
On Friday night, the ladies were in Wolfville playing the Acadia Axewomen under the lights at Raymond Field. Despite holding a lead for the majority of the game, a late goal by Kinsella Noseworthy-Smith forced the Tigers to settle for the draw.
Rachelle Lalande scored just four minutes into the game off a feed from Doriana Homerski giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead that would hold until the second half. Meghan Earle tied things up at 1-1 in the 55th minute. Kristy McGregor-Bales continued her hot 2015 campaign scoring her third goal of the year in the 70th minute. Noseworthy-Smith scored in 87th minute stealing the win from the Tigers.
The ladies were back at home on Saturday hosting the UPEI Panthers. Things did not go according to plan for the Tigers who out chanced and out-shot the Panthers, but could not manage to capitalize on their opportunities.
The lone goal of the match came off a free kick from Jerika Gimpel that found the head of Emilie Pelletier in the 61st minute. UPEI would hang on taking the match by a score of 1-0.
The Tigers have five games left in the regular season and will need a couple of wins to solidify a playoff berth. Next up on the schedule is the Saint Mary’s Huskies on October 16 at Wickwire Field.
Men’s Soccer
It was a huge weekend for the men’s soccer team, who lined up against two teams that were tied with them atop the AUS standings. The Tigers managed to grab four points with a tie against Acadia and a win over the UPEI Panthers. Now ±«Óătv sits in sole possession of second in the AUS.
Friday, the boys played against the Acadia Axemen who sat one point ahead of the Tigers at the time. It was crucial to come away with anything but a loss to stop Acadia’s point lead from growing. The two sides battled to a 2-2 draw.
Acadia scored the only goal of the first half in seventh minute off the foot of Travis Fenning. Zach Mbolekwa started his huge three-goal weekend with two back-to-back goals in the second half giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Cochrane Noseworthy-Smith knotted things up for Acadia with just 12 minutes to play. Both teams came away with a point leaving the AUS standings untouched.
Mbolekwa was at it again on Saturday when ±«Óătv hosted the UPEI Panthers, scoring in the 82nd minute breaking the 0-0 deadlock. Will Kaferoo added an insurance marker just 5 minutes later, giving the Tigers a 2-0 win.
Jason Ross recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season with four saves on Saturday. Mbolekwa now has four goals on the season, a career high for him.
The Tigers are off next weekend for Thanksgiving and will be back in action October 16 when they host the Saint Mary’s Huskies at Wickwire Field.
Men’s Volleyball
The Tigers kicked off their pre-season with a two-game series against the UBC Thunderbirds. The Tigers fell 3-2 on Friday but managed to sweep the Thunderbirds on Saturday, 3-0.
Friday night’s match was as close as it can get, with the Thunderbirds squeaking out the 25-27, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12 win. Kristen O’Brien led the way for the Tigers offensively with 14 kills Friday night. Adam Sandeson had had 16 digs in the loss.
It was a different story Saturday afternoon as the Tigers were in complete control of the match the whole way. ±«Óătv topped UBC 25-18, 25-20, 25-19.
It was O’Brien leading the way again with 14 kills and seven digs.
The regular season gets underway on October 23 at the AUS-RSEQ Interlock at ±«Óătv.
Cross Country
The cross country teams were at the AUS-RSEQ Interlock this past weekend hosted by Laval.
The unbeatable Matt McNeil continued to dominate the CIS cross country scene with his third straight win this season. McNeil finished the 8km race in a time 24:58 with the next closest competitor, Danny Racine (Laval) finishing in 25:23.

The men’s team recorded 102 points, good enough for fourth place behind Laval (30 points), StFX (57 points), McGill (62 points).
Kayte Kowal was the fastest Tiger on the women’s side with a time of 23:33 placing 14th in the 6km race. Morgan Hawkes and Jenna MacDonald finished 16th and 18th respectively.
The women’s team grabbed third spot in the team standings with 107 points, trailing Laval (38 points) and McGill (50 points).
The cross country teams have a break from competition this weekend and will head to Moncton October 16.
Women’s Hockey
It has been a rough start to the pre-season for the women’s hockey team as they dropped their second game of the campaign to the Saint Mary’s Huskies. The two sides faced off at the Halifax Forum on Sunday night with the Huskies coming out on top 6-2.
The Huskies came out flying, scoring three first period goals. They continued their attack into the second period scoring just 45 seconds into the frame, giving them a 4-0 lead. The Tigers tried to mount a comeback scoring two power play goals in the second period from Joleen MacInnis and Marita Alfieri.
Caitlyn Schell took the life out the Tigers scoring with a late shorthanded goal making it 5-2 Huskies after 40 minutes of play. The Huskies would add another in the third period to seal the deal
The Tigers will look to get their regular season going on the right note when they host St. Thomas on October 17.
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team had their first competitive action of the season over the weekend in PEI. The Tigers had a two-game set going head-to-head with UPEI and Holland College.
On Saturday the Tigers played the UPEI Panthers at Holland College. The Panthers were in control the whole game beating the Tigers 73-55. On Sunday afternoon the ladies took Holland College to overtime but was unable to close the game out losing 78-67.
The pre-season has just started for the Tigers as they will have plenty of time to sharpen their play with six pre-season games remaining. They host the 31st annual Lawton’s Centennial Tournament at Dalplex October 16-18.
Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team hosted two games at the Dalplex over this past weekend against Crandall University and Mount Allison. The defending AUS champions did not look like they have lost a step, opening their pre-season with a 2-0 record.
±«Óătv jumped out to an early lead Saturday against Crandall University but found themselves down by seven at half time. Led by the trio of Jarred Reid, Kashrell Lawrence and Sven Stammberger, the Tigers outscored Crandall 48-25 in the second half. The Tigers won their first game of the season 86-70.
On Sunday, the Tigers ran over the Mount Allison Mounties taking the second game of the weekend 91-54. Sean Dodds came off the bench to score 13 points, a team high, in just 12 minutes of play.
The Tigers will look to keep the ball rolling when they travel to Ontario next weekend to play Waterloo and McMaster.
Men’s Hockey
The men’s hockey team headed south this weekend to close out their pre-season. The Tigers were able to get their first win of the season on Sunday with a 5-3 victory over Sacred Heart. On Saturday they were downed 4-0 against UMASS-Amherst.
After a rough pre-season the boys will try to turn things around Saturday October 10 against the Saint Mary’ Huskies in the season opener at the Halifax Forum.
