Dr. Sachin Seth, a professor and administrator in the Faculty of Dentistry and former contestant on the Great Canadian Baking Show, shared his sugar cookie recipe for Dal's festive event this week.

The stakes were low but spirits were high at ±«Óãtv's Holiday Cookie Decorating Celebration this week.

"You don't have to get fancy, but you can if you want," said , a Faculty of Dentistry professorÌýwho joined Dal President Kim Brooks in hosting the event in Howe Hall this Thursday.Ìý"I'm sure there are people who can make some very pretty cookies, but the thing with cookies is that no matter how they look, they still taste great."

Dr. Seth gained national attention for his culinary skills when he baked his way into the finals on the second season of Ìýand won a holiday edition of the show in 2021. He shared a favoured sugar cookie recipe for this week's event, which ±«Óãtv Food Services used to produce some of the tasty treats on offer for attendees to decorate.

Unlike the baking show, which features a series of intense, time-based challenges that test the creativity and technical baking skills of competitors in the heat of the kitchen, the vibe of this week's festive gathering was decidely more chill.Ìý

"This is going to be a very straightforward event. There's absolutely no technical bake here," said Dr. Seth, to chuckles from the crowd. He instructed people to grab a bag of cookies and icing, scoop up some sprinkles, and get decorating.Ìý

In addition to offering members of the Dal community a brush with baking greatness (a few selfies were taken!), the event also provided a chance for staff, faculty and, in some cases, their family members to come together and ease into the holiday break with a cup of hot chocolate or punch in hand.

"It's a chance for us to have a moment where we feel like we are starting the festive holiday season," said President Brooks.Ìý

Haven't seen Dr. Seth create baking magic yet? and be sure to carve out some time this holiday break to watch him onÌý on CBC Gem!
