Tuesdays
Sept 25th – Nov 13th, 2012 - at 5:15 - 6:45pm - Room 1718C Dentistry bldg
What’s actually involved?
1) Sessions begin with a brief breathing exercise to help
- calm you down if stressed
- perk you up if sleepy
- bring mind and body back together in harmony, in the present
2) Next is a brief introductory talk on the theme for the session
- for session 1, the theme is: cultivating awareness
- a handout is provided at each session
3) This is followed by a short period of sitting meditation, in chairs - with simple instructions - to:
- improve attentiveness & mental clarity
- cultivate equanimity (calmness)
- diminish reactivity
As the sessions proceed, the duration of the sittings gradually lengthen.
4) Next is a brief discussion about how mindfulness impacts daily life. This is a great opportunity to interact, on a human to human level, in a supportive environment, with like-minded colleagues.
5) Another sitting, standing and / or walking meditation (as time permits).
6) Closing breathing exercise.
Participants are encouraged to develop a daily (home) meditation practice for maximum benefit.
