EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POSITION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT
A Research Assistant is being sought for a 2 year term position, commencing May 2013. The successful applicant will be responsible for participant recruitment, data collection, and data management for a research project that will explore the impact social determinants of health have for people with mental health problems who have been involved with the criminal justice system.
The successful applicant will be required to work both independently and collaboratively with (a) people with mental health problems and criminal justice involvement, (b) family members, and (c) a wide range of other stakeholders, including service providers in both mental health and criminal justice fields, community organizations/agencies, policy makers, and academics . Direct supervision will be provided by the two principal research investigators, Crystal Dieleman, Ph.D., (School of Occupational Therapy) and Jean Hughes, Ph.D. (School of Nursing) at ±«Óătv University).
RATE OF PAY: $15/hour for 20 hours per week
QUALIFICATIONS:
   •   Graduate education in a discipline related to health care and/or criminal justice, such as criminology, sociology, social work, nursing, psychology or occupational therapy.
   •   Previous university level research experience, including experience with qualitative research methods. Experience with direct participant-researcher data collection methods and data management using computer software (i.e.: Atlas ti) will be an asset.
   •   Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to work as a member of a team
   •   Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines, strong organizational skills
   •   Previous experience with mental health and/or criminal justice will be an asset.
