Hands on with Office 365

Posted by Information Technology Services on July 29, 2013 in General Announcements

As of this point, nearly 2,000 faculty and staff are up and running on Office 365's Outlook mail. We've been asking some of them to share their experience to date including Natalie Mike, communications officer with Student Services.

What are your first impressions of Office 365 email?
It is seamless. I connect to my email primarily using my Apple mail software on my MacBook, so once I got that connected, it's pretty much the same in terms of how I read my mail.

How long did it take to get you up and running on Office 365?
It took me less than 5 minutes. The visual tutorials on the ITS support site were great - I am a really visual learner and so I found those so useful.

What feature/benefit do you appreciate the most?
On the old email system, the "over quota" messages were really frustrating. I send/receive a lot of large files and so I was constantly trying to move emails around my computer in order to delete trash or sent messages with the limited capacity. Now, that's not an issue anymore. Also, the online "MyDal" component is way easier to use than the old version.

What's been the most difficult or frustrating part of the transition for you?
There really is nothing I have had trouble doing - yet!

How do you think Office 365 may benefit you in your work at the university?

Sometimes the small storage affected my ability to send/ receive mail, which was sometimes crucial to a project deadline - especially when sending files to print. With the large storage quota, I don't think that will be a problem any more!
