The Atlantic Research Data Centre will be hosting a free Statistics Canada half-day information session on the data surveys that are available for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit from the 2012 Aboriginal People’s Survey and the 2011 National Household Survey. The information session is scheduled for Wed., March 26, 2014, 9:00 – 12:00, Student Union Building, ±«Óãtv University (6136 University Avenue) Room 307.

There are a number of analytical and data products on Aboriginal peoples that might be of interest to you, your community or your organization.

The Aboriginal People’s survey (APS)

The first results from the 2012 APS were released on November 25th, 2013. They describe the education and employment characteristics of First Nations people living off reserve, Métis, and Inuit aged 6 and older. The survey also collected information on health, language, income, housing and mobility. This is the fourth cycle of the survey.

The Aboriginal Peoples Survey provides key statistics to inform policy and programming activities aimed at improving the well-being of Aboriginal Peoples. It is a valuable source of information for a variety of stakeholders including Aboriginal organizations, communities, service providers, researchers, governments and the general public.

The 2011 National Household Survey (NHS)

Starting in 2011, information previously collected by the mandatory long-form census questionnaire is collected as part of the voluntary National Household Survey (NHS). The NHS provides information about the demographic, social and economic characteristics of people living in Canada as well as the housing units in which they live. Our presentation will focus exclusively on Aboriginal data.
