Campus Maps Relaunched

Posted by Communications and Marketing on July 31, 2014 in General Announcements

On Thursday, July 31, will be migrated into the dal.ca format. This will bring about a number of new benefits and address some of the issues we’ve had with updating the current campus maps platform.

Taking a familiar route

The revised Campus Maps will leverage technologies we already know: our current website content management system and Google Maps. Bringing maps into our current website platform will ensure campus maps are easier for our team to update, are responsive (mobile-friendly), and are fully integrated and searchable within dal.ca. Incorporating Google Maps enables students, staff and visitors to use a platform they already know that offers a variety of expected options (including transit routes and times).

One step at a time

We are making this transition through a phased approach:

  • Phase One features embedded Google Maps on the campus maps web pages.
  • Phase Two will include work with the Google Maps app to better incorporate the maps on the web pages.
  • Phase Three will include robust information on Google Maps, including floorplans and building information (see , or , for an example).

We can use your help

While we have been able to make several updates during this transition—  such as inclusion of the Steele Ocean Sciences Building and the LeMarchant Mixed-Use Building — we ask that you take a look at the building pages and maps you are familiar with and submit any revisions or updates we’ve missed. You can submit feedback to www@dal.ca or .

If your website links to the old Campus Maps website, we ask that you update these links to point to the new Campus Maps website. The new URL is and dal.ca web authors can now update links for specific building pages through the CQ tree.
