Job Summary
The School of Occupational Therapy at ±«Óãtv University is looking for a research assistant to facilitate developing a guideline for investigating health care services and resilience in Canadian children with disabilities. Dr. Parisa Ghanouni and her team hopes to initiate the evaluation of services to promote resilience and mental health among families of children with disabilities. We will send out surveys to families of children with disabilities and their clinicians to better understand barriers and facilitators in developing health care programs to promote resilience. Ìý
The key objectives of the project include:
a. To identify barriers in design and development of services to promote resilience,
b. To evaluate resilience among stakeholders (e.g., clinicians and families),
c. To identify facilitators of implementing services to promote resilience among families of children with disabilities,
d. To develop resources to well implement resilience in health care systems.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Principal Investigator, liaises with team members, and the project steering committee.
Work performed:Ìý
- Organizes and participates in meetings to define strategy, goals, and scope of the research project;
- Recruitment of participants, management of participant issues throughout the study as they may arise, and ensure and manage contact between study personnel and participants is maintained throughout their involvement in the study;
- Facilitates and tracks the process of remuneration of study participants;
- Working on ethics applications and editing manuscripts
- Developing surveys
- Interviewing with participants and transcribing them
- Help the research team with collecting and analyzing data
- Dissemination - preparing, composing, editing and proofing documents such as reports, contracts, and scientific communications and preparation of posters/presentations, and present in local and international meetings;
- Performing other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.
Supervision ReceivedÌý
Works under general supervision, receiving specific instructions on matters that depart significantly from established research protocols or procedure.
Decision Making/Level of Accountability
Makes professional decisions and recommendation on all aspects of the research work.Ìý Errors in performance of the above-related duties could have a significant impact on the effectiveness, image, reputation and financial status of the research project. Inappropriate judgment could result in loss of potential research, in funding shortfalls for research grants or contracts, and may flaw the research.Ìý
The work is of a complex nature, and the incumbent plans and schedules his/her own work.
Qualifications
-University degree in a Health or Social discipline (Undergraduate, Master, or PhD) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
-Strong conceptual skills and a demonstrated ability to design and carry out research projects
-Ability to work with people of diverse needs and excellent skills in problem solving.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Excellent substantive and editing skills.
-Facility in the use of computers, PCs and Macs.
-Experience with other research software is an asset.
-Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.
-Ability to manage and move forward a diverse range of concurrent complex issues.
-Ability to work independently while exercising excellent judgment at all times.

-Background in publications and/or qualitative and quantitative data analysis
