BScN Scholarships, Bursaries, Awards & Prizes
Samir and Marie Chater Scholarship in Nursing ($2500 awarded Annually)
This scholarship is awarded to a student who self-identifies as Acadian, Indigenous, Person of African Descent or a member of another racially visible group, enrolled in the BScN program.

Samir Chater Scholarship in Nursing ($3000 awarded Annually)
This scholarship is awarded to a student of Black/African or Indigenous Ancestry or a member of another racially visible group enrolled in the BScN program.

Carol Rene Covert Memorial Scholarship in Nursing
Carol Rene Covert lived a life of purpose. A dedicated nurse and, later in her career, an administrator, she believed in the healing value of bedside nursing. This renewable award fully funds tuition, fees, and living expenses for a full-time student in the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) program.

School of Nursing BScN Entrance Scholarships
Scholarships are provided annually to students with high academic standing entering the BScN Program. Awards are available for those entering the program not directly from high school, and also those pursuing Semester 3 admission (with previous university experience).

School of Nursing Undergraduate Bursary
This annual bursary is available to one or more students in the Bachelor of Science Nursing Program who demonstrate financial need.

Doreen Carroll BScN Bursary Award
Doreen Carroll was born and educated in Halifax and was a countless supporter of numerous charitable institutions. While a patient in 2002 and subsequent years, Doreen recognized genuine kindness of staff to all patients. In honour of their compassion and skill care, the Carroll family decided to sponsor the Doreen Carroll Bursary to assist student in the ±«Óãtv BScN program.
Awarded twice annually to undergraduate students in their final semester of study, who demonstrate an interest in Oncology nursing.

Dr. Margaret Fitch Award in Oncology Nursing
Dr. Margaret Fitch maintained a high level of involvement in professional nursing organizations. Specifically, she served as the Founding President of the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology and President of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC).
Awarded annually to an undergraduate student who demonstrates excellence in Oncology Nursing.

Elizabeth MacKinnon Lambie Award for Nutrition
Awarded annually at both Spring and Fall convocation to a graduating student who has demonstrated the ability to apply community nutrition knowledge for the nursing profession.

Heather O’Brien VON Memorial Award ($1500 awarded annually in the Spring)
This award is in memory/honour of the life and work of LPN, Heather O’Brien and her dedication to Home & Community care. It recognizes the meaningful contributions of a graduating student whose service, commitment and acts of care and compassion have gone above and beyond the call of duty and inspired others. The recipient possesses VON’s values of respect, compassion and excellence which were embodied by Heather.

Kristen Beaton VON Memorial Award ($1500 awarded annually in the Fall)
This award is in memory/honour of the life and work of CCA, Kristen Beaton and her dedication to Home & Community care. It recognizes the meaningful contributions of a graduating student whose service, commitment and acts of care and compassion have gone above and beyond the call of duty and inspired others. The recipient possesses VON’s values of respect, compassion and excellence which were embodied by Kristen.

The STTI Rho Rho Chapter Award (Awarded annually in the Fall)
The purpose of the STTI Rho Rho Chapter Award is to recognize outstanding scholarship by qualified nurses and/or nursing students that will advance knowledge in the area of nursing science and practice.

Matthew Ayer Prize
Matthew Ayer was a ±«Óãtv Nursing student who passed away in 2007, and who showed a keen interest in community nursing during his studies.
This prize is awarded to a graduating student of the BScN Program who has excelled in working with populations living on the margins of society due to social injustices.
This is a faculty nominated prize.
Irene Dempster Memorial Prize ($500 awarded annually in the Spring)
Irene enjoyed a long nursing career that began in Belfast, Ireland. She spent the last years of her career in Nova Scotia specializing in OB/GYN at the Grace Maternity Hospital in the late 1960s and spearheading the Rooming-In standard for moms during delivery/labour at the then-new IWK Hospital. She was an instructor at the VG School of Nursing in the 1970s and a professor for the Baccalaureate Program at ±«Óãtv School of Nursing during the 1980s. Irene was then seconded to Colchester Regional Hospital, in Truro, NS, during the 1990s to assist in developing the OB/GYN Unit. Upon "retirement", she continued her nursing career as a nurse educator for the NS Palliative Care Program, the Alzheimer's Program and the Continuing Care (CCA) Program. She was also a certified midwife, lactation consultant and long-time Red Cross instructor.
This is awarded to the graduating student achieving the highest grade in N4410 annually.
Gail Giles Campbell Memorial Prize
In memory of her resilient spirit, and in light of the fact that Gail was a forever Maritimer and a lifelong nurse at heart, the Gail Giles Campbell Memorial Prize at the ±«Óãtv School of Nursing will recognize a student who has overcome significant adversity to pursue a nursing education.

Mary Lou Ellerton Prize in Clinical Nursing (Awarded annually in the Spring)
Mary Lou Ellerton was the Associate Director, Undergraduate Program Planning and Development at the School of Nursing, ±«Óãtv University. She devoted her professional life to fostering excellence in clinical practice and made many significant contributions to both Graduate and Undergraduate programs in the School of Nursing.
This prize is presented to the graduating student who has consistently received excellent evaluations in the clinical nursing components of the program.
