Pre‑Clinical Document Requirements
Incoming students must submit their pre-clinical documents package by:
September 1 for students beginning Semester 3 in September
May 1 for students beginning Semester 3 in May
RememberÌýthat you willÌýnotÌýbe able to participate in the mandatory clinical experiences as a student nurse if your immunizations and other required information are not current and complete.
Do not submit the originalÌýcopies to the School of Nursing.Ìý Keep the original documents in a safe place. You will need these in the future when you seek employment as a Registered Nurse.
The School of Nursing isÌýnotÌýresponsible for keeping your immunization records; only for ensuring that you are adequately immunized. The School of Nursing will not provide you with a copy of your pre-clinical documents.
Pre-Clinical Document Requirements
[This includes but not limited to Faculty of Health form completed and signed, required serology’s, Mandatory Tuberculosis Skin Test form completed and signed, Standard First Aid, CPR-HCP, CRC-VSS, CAR, WHMIS]
Requirements:
1.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýImmunization
Students accepted into theÌýBScN programsÌýmust meet the following immunization requirements.
- Measles / Mumps / Rubella (MMR)
- Varicella
- Tetanus – Diphtheria-Accellular Pertussis (Tdap)
- Hepatitis B (including HepAb serology indicating levels)
- Polio
- Tuberculosis
Hepatitis can take up toÌý6 monthsÌýto complete, and Tuberculosis testing can take several weeks to complete begin process as soon as possible
Undergraduate nursing students must have theirÌýÌý[PDF - 320kB]Ìýcompleted and signed by their health-care providerÌýas part of the pre-clinical submission.
Student’s will not be able to participate in the mandatory clinical experiences as a student nurse if your immunizations are not current and complete. The School of Nursing is not responsible for keeping your immunization records; only for ensuring that you are adequately immunized. Therefore, it is recommended that you make a copy of your Pre-Clinical Requirements and all your supporting documentation prior to submission to the School of Nursing. The School of Nursing will not provide you with a copy of your immunization documents.

2.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search Check
All students admitted to the School of Nursing are required to submit a current Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search (CRC/VSS), as part of their pre-clinical Requirements. Students entering Semester 3 in May should not have this completed prior to January 1; those entering Semester 3 in September should not have this completed prior to July 1.
Students who become out of sequence from their cohort, will be required to update their CRC-VSS upon return.

3.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý CPR for Health Care Providers
Newly admitted BScN students must be certified in CPR at the Health Care Provider (HCP) also known as Basic Life Support (BLS) level and this documentation must be included in your pre-clinical submission. Certification must be dated the year in which you enter the program. It is the students’ responsibility to ensure that they renew their CPR certification on or before the expiry date and submit to the Clinical Placement Office. Online certification is not accepted.Ìý

4.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Standard First Aid
Newly admitted BScN students must be certified in Standard First Aid and this documentation is to be included in your pre-clinical submission. Please note that Standard First Aid is for admission purposes. Certification must be dated the year in which you enter the program. It is the students’ responsibility to ensure that they renew their Standard First Aid certification on or before the expiry date and submit to the Clinical Placement Office. Online certification is not accepted.Ìý
****Please note that First Aid and CPR can be taken individually or as combined courses. provides suggested courses for taking individual or combined course offerings. Some Individual First Aid courses will offer a different level of CPR that does NOT meet requirements. Only CPR HCP or BLS will be accepted. ****

5.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Child Abuse Registry (CAR)
All students admitted to the School of Nursing are required to submit a current Child Abuse Registry (CAR) as part of their pre-clinical requirements. Students entering Semester 3 in May should not have this completed prior to January 1 and those entering Semester 3 in September should not have this completed prior to July 1. 6.Ìý Ìý ÌýÌý WHMIS
All studentsÌýadmitted to the School of Nursing are required to Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training and submit certification as part of the pre-clinical requirement. Important Reminders
- Start your immunization requirement as soon as possible. The completed Faculty of Health Infectious Disease Preclinical Requirements form with required attachments is what will be accepted as your immunization requirements.
- Pre-clinical requirements must be submitted as one complete submission. (Students are provided a link for submission with their welcome information).
- Students are responsible for ensuring submission of up to date Standard First Aid and CPR certifications if expiring.
- The School of Nursing is not able to provide students a copy of the preclinical submission.
