Internship Program

The Schulich School of Law Internship Program funds several paid summer internships which offers students an opportunity to work many different types of organizations both in Canada and around the world: international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), not-for-profit (NFP), public sector, public interests, social justice, and charities are just a few examples.

Students work for the host internship organization for 10-12 weeks during the summer and are supervised by a legal professional.  Internships offer students the invaluable opportunity to apply their legal skills and knowledge, explore potential career paths, gain experience, and make connections. 

INTERNSHIPS
Listed below are the funding internships that have historically been available.  Please note that this list might change as new opportunities are made available.

Arthur F. Miller Internship

An internship where a student proposes a volunteer project with a not-for-profit (NFP), non-government organizations (NGO), public sector, public interest, social justice organization. This internship takes place the summer of second year.

Funding: $12,000

Lenczner Slaght Advocacy Internship

An internship to allow a student to work at an organization with a focus on access to justice or social responsibility with opportunities for either written and/or oral advocacy.  Available to students during summer after first or second year.

Funding: $12,000

McCarthy Tétrault LLP Business Law Internship

A business law internship program with one of McCarthy Tétrault's clients, which in recent years has been . The internship takes place the summer after first year.

Funding: $12,500

Penelope Tham Summer Business Internship

A business law and policy internship. Propose a volunteer project that will last a minimum of 12 weeks with a business law or policy organization. The internship takes place the summer after first year.

Funding: $8,000

Roman Elster Internship in Intellectual Property & Innovation

An internship where a student proposes a volunteer project with a non-profit organization focused on Intellectual Property and Innovation in the legal sector. 

Funding: $8,000

Schulich Academic Excellence Fund for Internships

An internship where a student proposes a volunteer project with a not-for-profit (NFP), non-government organizations (NGO), public sector, public interest, social justice organization. This internship takes place the summer of first and second year.

Funding: $8,000

Schulich Alumni Internship

An internship where a student proposes a volunteer project with a not-for-profit (NFP), non-government organizations (NGO), public sector, public interest, social justice organization. This internship takes place the summer of first or second year.

Funding: $8,000

The Honourable Gordon S Cowan Court of Appeal Internship

An internship where a student will work on a research project at the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal under the direction of the Chief Justice of Nova Scotia. The four-month internship takes place the summer after second year.

Funding: $12,000


An Internship information session is held in early fall for any first year and/or second year students interested in internships.  Students are encouraged to contact the Career Development Office (career.development@dal.ca.) for more information.  Internship proposals are typically due in February.
