Juris Doctor (JD) Program
A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the Schulich School of Law is your connection to a successful career. Recognized around the world, it symbolizes hard work, an analytical mind, and a comprehensive understanding of legal foundations.
The full-time JD program requires three years of study. In your first year, you’ll have a set curriculum of courses that build the foundation for future studies. In your second and third years, you’ll get to pursue your specific interests.
We offer nearly 200 courses in traditional and emerging areas of the law. See our course listings.
Certificates & Concentrations
You can further focus your legal studies and earn a certificate in one of our specializations:
- Aboriginal and Indigenous Law
- Criminal Justice
- Business Law
- Marine & Environmental LawÂ
- Law & Technology

Combined Degrees
Our long-standing partnerships with four other Dal schools mean you can complete your Juris Doctor (JD) and a specialist Masters degree at the same time—the perfect balance between education and application. Plus, you can complete a combined degree in one year less than it would take you to complete both degrees separately.Â
- JD/Master of Health Administration
- JD/Master of Information
- JD/Master of Business Administration
- JD/Master of Public Administration
