Introducing our associate dean, equity and inclusion

Dr. Kevin Hewitt was appointed as the Faculty of Science's first associate dean, equity and inclusion on September 1, 2022.

A professor in the Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science, Dr. Hewitt is the co-founder of the Imhotep’s Legacy Academy (ILA) and a former Chair of the ±«Óãtv Senate. In September 2023, he was announced as one of three inaugural Atlantic Chairs for Inclusion in Science and Engineering, an NSERC-established team tasked with creating greater inclusion in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields in Atlantic Canada. Faculty of Science Equity Champion Program

The ±«Óãtv Faculty of Science Equity Champion Program, overseen by the associate dean, equity and Inclusion, is being established to train, support and coordinate Faculty of Science faculty members, staff and students who will facilitate the advancement of Faculty/Departmental inclusive excellence priorities and goals, including the development and implementation of employment equity plans as outlined in ±«Óãtv’s Employment Equity Plan, and the application of the Diversity, Equity Assessment Planning (DEAP) tool to advance our research, teaching, administrative and community outreach goals.
