To celebrate the giving spirit of George Munro and Munro Day, the Growing Communities Series is inviting members of the ±«Óãtv community to volunteer at the Loaded Ladle on February 4, 5, & 6, 2020. What is the Loaded Ladle, you ask? Well, the  is a kitchen and meal service in the Student Union Building that provides accessible, sustainable, locally-sourced free food on the ±«Óãtv campus. Now running for ten years, the Loaded Ladle operates during the academic year and serves up to 180 free meals a day, 4 days a week.Â
The Growing Communities Series, a partnership between Human Resources and ±«Óãtv Professional & Managerial Group (DPMG), invites you to give back to students and the Dal community by volunteering your time prepping or serving meals on February 4, 5, or 6. The Growing Communities Series will also be sponsoring a Loaded Ladle meal that week. Since 2017, the Growing Communities Series has hosted annual events focused on servicing the needs of our external community through access to Dal's resources, services, and partners.
Here are some details:
If you are interested in volunteering solo or in a small group, no sign up is required. If you would like to volunteer with 4+ people, please let Gwen BartlemanÌý°ì²Ô´Ç·ÉÌýwhat date and time you are available (to ensure we don't have multiple big groups in the kitchen at the same time).
Whether for 30 minutes or an hour, the Loaded Ladle would love your help!
9:00-11:00am – prep time (maybe cutting or shredding veggies, making cake batter, or starting to prepare salads)
11:00am-1:00pm – final preparations for service (baking cakes, making salad dressings, spicing the stew…it could also involve helping set up the serving area)
1:00-1:45pm – serving (and some cleaning)
1:30-3:00pm – cleaning and late serving (helping to clean the serving and prep spaces – the cleaning shift may not be glamorous, but it makes everything else they do possible!)
Other details: please wear sturdy shoes (no high heels!) with closed toes.
