±«Óătv the Opportunity: The Faculty of Dentistry, ±«Óătv University and IWK Health are seeking applications for a 2 day/week pediatric dentist. ±«Óătv University is in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Â
At the Faculty of Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry is a division in the Department of Dental Clinical Sciences. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include didactic, pre-clinical and clinical teaching in all aspects of Pediatric Dentistry in the Faculty’s undergraduate and graduate programs. Additional expectations include active participation in research and scholarly activities and hospital and faculty committees. Candidates must be eligible to receive an appointment with ±«Óătv University Â
At IWK Health, the Department of Dentistry Pediatric Dentistry staff provide tertiary pediatric dentistry care for the maritime region. There is a clinic within the hospital and access to operating room time. The successful applicant will be assigned to both service locations as well as to university commitments by the Clinical Leader (RN) in consultation with the Chief of Dentistry. The pediatric dentists provide a call service 24 hr/day, 365 days/year. The call is shared proportionally among the pediatric dentists based on their number of days/weeks of work. Â
At present, there is an accredited one-year pediatric general practice residency that is prime-based at IWK Health. The successful candidate will supervise the two residents in clinic, the operating room and while they take “first call” for the service.
Candidates must possess a DDS/DMD, must have successfully completed specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry and be eligible for licensure by the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia. If the candidate has not successfully completed their National Dental Specialty Exam (NDSE) in Pediatric Dentistry administered in Canada, they must do so within 12 months of the start of their position. Candidates will be required to provide evidence of malpractice insurance. Candidates must be eligible for the granting of hospital privileges, in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry, by the Board of Directors of IWK Health. Preference will be given to applicants who have successfully completed their NDSE examination in Pediatric Dentistry.   Candidates with a history of scholarly activity are preferred. Â
