Introduction
Our group is dedicated to pioneering innovative solutions in energy storage, with a focus on improving battery efficiency, sustainability, and performance to support the transition to cleaner energy. Our research emphasizes the development of sustainable methods to produce advanced battery materials, explore new Lithium and Sodium-ion battery chemistries, and improve battery recycling technologies. We collaborate closely with industry partners to develop low-cost, environmentally friendly manufacturing methods and create efficient recycling processes to reduce waste and environmental impact.
Key Research Areas
Our research group is focused on several critical areas of battery technology to drive the future of energy storage:
- Battery Manufacturing: Developing advanced materials and manufacturing methods to create more efficient, durable, and cost-effective batteries.
- Energy Density Improvements: Enhancing the energy storage capacity of batteries to enable longer-lasting, high-performance applications.
- Sustainability & Recycling: Investigating eco-friendly production methods, sustainable material sourcing, and developing effective recycling processes to minimize environmental impact.
- Battery Lifecycle & Longevity: Studying ways to extend the lifespan of batteries while maintaining high performance, reducing waste, and lowering costs.
- Next-Generation Battery Technologies: Exploring cutting-edge technologies such as solid-state batteries and other innovative chemistries to push the boundaries of energy storage.
Collaborations and Partnerships
The Obrovac Research Lab is proudly supported by the NSERC/NOVONIX Industrial Research in Advanced Battery Materials, enabling us to advance cutting-edge research in battery technologies. Additionally, we are supported by a Mitacs grant, fostering strong collaborations between academia and industry. The lab also benefits from Volt-Age seed funding, which announced support for our battery recycling project. Furthermore, our research is supported by NSERC Discovery Grants, which provide vital funding to explore fundamental research in battery science and technology.
