Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) applicants

Admission requirements for CAPE applicants

As a CAPE applicant, you must have completed the CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate, commonly referred to as the CXC’s). Some two-unit CAPE subjects may be eligible for university transfer credits.

CAPE applicants must meet ±«Óãtv's general admission requirements, as well as the specific requirements detailed on this page.

Admission requirements

As an CAPE applicant you must meet our general entrance requirements. In addition, your results from the CXCs must consist of:

  • At least five subjects including English
  • A minimum of two 2-unit CAPE subjects

Please note that specific subject and grade requirements will vary by academic program.ÌýMath requirementsÌýare met in the following ways:

  • Academic Math 12Ìýrequirement is met byÌýCSEC Math
  • Pre-calculusÌýrequirement is met byÌýCAPE Math

University credit for CAPE courses

SelectÌýtwo-unitÌýCAPE subjects completed with grades ofÌý1, 2,ÌýorÌý3Ìýare eligible for transfer credit consideration. Please see the table below for a list of the CAPE transfer credits that ±«Óãtv currently offers. One-unit CAPE courses are not eligible for transfer credit.

Please note:Ìýthe transfer credits you receive may be impacted by the degree requirements of your chosen program.

How to request CAPE transfer credits

Please note:ÌýTransfer credits are subject to change. Due to degree requirements, students in the Bachelor of Engineering program are eligible to receive a maximum of 12 credit hours of transfer credits.ÌýPlease contactÌýtransfercredits@dal.caÌýor speak to anÌýacademic advisorÌýfor more information.

At present, transfer credit is not offered for:

  • Caribbean Studies
  • Chemistry
  • Communication Studies
  • Electrical and Electronic Technology
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Geometrical and Mechanical Engineering Drawing
  • Spanish

  1. Confirm your offer of admissionÌýbyÌýpaying your admission deposit.

  2. Complete theÌý. You can submit your completed form before your final exam results are available.ÌýTransfer credits will be listed as pending on your academic record until official CAPE exam results are received.

  3. You must arrange for CAPE exam results to be sent to theÌýRegistrar’s OfficeÌýdirectly from the CXC as soon as they are available. Transcripts submitted by a student’s high school are not sufficient for CAPE transfer credit consideration.

Deadline: Transfer credit request forms must be submitted before you complete your first semester at ±«Óãtv.

Processing time:Ìý4-6 weeks.
